Movie Night!

Tonight I watched Modern Times, starring Charlie Chaplin. This was Charlie Chaplin's last 'silent movie'. The acting is all silent, but there are a few sound effects throughout.  This movie is about a man, trying to fit into the machine age. He spends the whole movie, hanging out with a homeless girl, and getting put in and out of jail. I thought it was a pretty silly movie, but still really good.

Movie Night!

Tonight I watched Singin' In the Rain, starring Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds. This movie is about a silent film production company and the cast transition a movie from silent to have sound, to keep up with the other production companies.

I had never seen this movie all the way through, so I was pretty excited to see it tonight. I thought it was very good and a fun musical to watch. If you like old musicals and haven't seen this one, I would throughly recommended it! Here is one of my favorite songs from the movie. Enjoy!

Singin' in the Rain is still popular today. It was used on Glee in a mash-up for an episode this season. Enjoy!

Movie Night!

Tonight I watched Unforgiven, starring Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman, and Gene Hackman. This movie is about a retired cowboy, who comes out of retirement along with his ex-partner, plus a younger cowboy. They make their way to a town in Texas where they hope to earn reward money if they kill two cowboys that cut up a prostitute. I've seen several Westerns lately and this was by far the best. It was a little depressing, but still a great movie.

This movie made me want to watch a more classic Clint Eastwood western. Maybe with I finish the 100 AFI movies, I'll add some to my Netflix. I'm over half way done with the movie list!!!!

Movie Night!

Tonight I watched Double Indemnity, starring Fred MacMurray. This movie is about an insurance agent who falls in love with the wife of one of his clients. The wife and the insurance agent trick the wife's husband into signing an accidental death insurance policy so they can kill him, collect the money, and life happily ever after. However, things don't quite go according to plan.

I won't tell you how it ends, but I thought this was a great movie. It was kind of weird to see Fred MacMurray, the dad on My Three Sons, as an adulterous murderer, but he did a good job. And the story kept you guessing what was going to happen up until the very end.

Movie Night!

Tonight I watched All the President's Men, starring Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman. I love Robert Redford, just about every movie I've seen of his is great!

This movie was about real reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein who worked for the Washington Post. They are the reporters who discovered the true details of Watergate that eventually lead to President Nixon's resignation.

I thought this movie was a little slow are parts, but still a very interesting movie. It's always fun to see a movie that is based on a true story. If you are a history buff, this is a movie you will enjoy!

Movie Night!

Tonight I watched High Noon starring Gary Cooper. This movie was very good. It was a simple little movie, but it kept you wondering how it was going to end.

Summary: On the day he gets married and hangs up his badge, lawman Will Kane is told that a man he sent to prison years before, Frank Miller, is returning on the noon train to exact his revenge. Having initially decided to leave with his new spouse, Will decides he must go back and face Miller. However, when he seeks the help of the townspeople he has protected for so long, they turn their backs on him. It seems Kane may have to face Miller alone, as well as the rest of Miller's gang, who are waiting for him at the station...

Canoeing the Whiskey Chitto River!

Today Me, Jana, Chris, and Kathryn met John, Moose and Ashley in Louisiana for a canoe trip down the Whiskey Chitto. It was quite the experience. We got to see some very interesting people and see them do interesting things. We had a fun time, but I think the next time I go canoeing it will be when the river is a foot higher!

Movie Night!

The Wild Bunch is a 1969 American Western film directed by Sam Peckinpah about an aging outlaw gang on the Texas-Mexico border, trying to exist in the changing "modern" world of 1913. The film was controversial because of its graphic, bloody violence and its portrayal of the crude men attempting to survive by any available means.

I thought this movie was okay. It was very violent and there was one part that was so violent, it was disturbing. The ending was pretty depressing too. This is definitely a movie just for the guys.

Couples Cook-off

Every night a different couple got their chance to cook a meal for everyone. The first night was Joe and Alyssa's. They made Mexican! It was so delicious. They made this great skirt steak to make fajitas. And they had some fantastic props. I took a few pictures, but they are a little blurry.

Me and John with our hats and mustaches

 Me and Mr. Paul

Mr. Paul and Terry, had an alien themed party. They gave the girl antenes and the guys got sunglasses that look like alien eyes. All their food had alien names to them. I think my favorite was the appetizer. They looked like little space ships. I only managed to get a picture of their dessert...

Alien!

The last night when me me and John. Our meal was a tribute to Washington, everything we fixed had raspberries in it. We started off with our signature cocktail, Raspberry Beer.

Table with the Space Needle balloon.

 Mount St. Helen's Appetizer

Raspberry Sockeye Salmon with side salad

Raspberry Sorbet

This meal was a lot of work, mainly gathering all the ingredients. But once we got everything together, it was lots of fun!!

New Restaurant

Before I had to leave Seattle we all grabbed a quick bite to eat. We went to Tatanka Take-Out where they served Buffalo Burgers! These burgers were so delicious. The meat was not as heavy as beef hamburgers and have more flavor too! It was a nice end to a wonderful time in Seattle!

Fremont Troll

While we were driving around we stopped at the Fremont Troll. I thought Joe and Alyssa were joking when they told me and John they wanted to show us a troll under the bridge. It really is a troll that is under this bridge, and it was huge!

Here are a few more picture of things we saw on the way back to the condo from the Space Needle.

Water Tunnel.
You walk or fun through it and there is rushing water on both
sides of you. It was pretty neat.

Chess anyone?

Original Starbucks!
This is the only Starbucks that get to use the original sign.

Me and John

Gum wall. Pretty Gross, but neat looking. And it smelled
fruity and minty!

Me!

It was on top of a fence. Pretty interesting barbwire.
