Book Review

Book Summary: With over 2.2 million followers (a number growing by the day), and a now famously uncanny ability to pack 140 characters with a maximum amount of humor and wit, Steve Martin has defined what it means to be a celebrity in today's world of social media. Martin's tweets have been covered by personal blogs, major news outlets, and everything in between, and this collection brings his funniest, most memorable messages--and hilarious responses from followers--together for avid followers and offline fans alike.

I wasn't exactly sure what I was getting myself into when I picked up this book at the library. I've read a couple of Steve Martin books before. I would say that this book is not for everyone. (I think having a Twitter account helped) I ended up enjoying this book and it had several lol moments.

Book Review!

Book Summary: Jackson celebrates the history of Mississippi's capital city with more than 200 photographs from the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, the National Archives, and university collections. From its start as a settlement on LeFleur's Bluff overlooking the Pearl River to its present-day position as one of the leading cities of the New South, Jackson's history is one of change, colorful characters, and a uniquely Southern atmosphere. Beginning with a tour of one of the city's oldest and best-known streets, Jackson features the work of outstanding local photographers and combines detailed historical narratives with entertaining stories about ordinary Jacksonians. From the club president who saved a magnolia tree by staging a protest in its branches to the photographer who opened his first studio in a tent, this compelling visual history revisits familiar landmarks and people from Jackson's past.

Another interesting book I picked up at the library. This was a really fun book to look at.. The book featured pictures of Jackson ranging from 1870 to 1950. It was interesting to see how extraordinary downtown used to be.

Book Review!

Book Summary: Throughout her writing career Eudora Welty's camera was a close companion. She is among the very few authors who are acclaimed for their work in both literature and photography. The 100 duotone pictures in this volume are selections from the many she took during the Great Depression as she traveled in her home state of Mississippi while she was working for the WPA.

I picked this book up at the library the other day. This is one of Eudora Welty's photo books. It was really interesting to see pictures of Mississippi taken during the depression.

Book Review

About the Book: When Arturo the Parrot, whose job was to help greet people as they came into The Friendly Shoe Store, picked up and repeated a small boy's disgruntled comment---Shoes are for the birds!---it certainly changed the course of his life! This is Eudora Welty's only book specifically for young readers.

I first heard about this been when we visited the Eudora Welty House. I found a copy of The Shoe Bird at the library. It was a cute little book and had a cute little story. There was some educational aspects to it, mostly with words and saying and that most things have more than one meaning.

Hot Springs, AR

This weekend me and some girls from work, Morgan, Kaylon, and Erin, went on a girls trip to Hot Springs, AR. Morgan and I had been before. She really wanted to go again and her husband was not interested, so it turned into a girls trip.

Stopped at the Welcome Center in Lake Providence, LA

I have been to see horse races before, but never when it was muddy and raining.

So muddy!

Photo finish!

Before each race you got to see which horses were running. It was also a way to defrost from the cold outside.

We had dinner at McClard's Bar-b-q. It was a top restaurant to go to in Hot Springs.
Turns out is listed a one of the top 1000 places to visit before you die

Our last meal in Hot Springs!

This place was so delicious and I didn't get a picture because it was kind of embarissing the amount of food was at our table. There were so many little plates with food on it there was not room!

Book Review!

Book Description: A selection of quotations: Welty's descriptions of nature. This book is for lovers of nature and lovers of language. Eudora Welty was deeply attuned to the natural world. Her powers of observation were keen and constantly at work. Welty's knowledge of and pleasure in nature is abundantly apparent in her fiction. These selections are offered not only for their descriptive quality, but for her imaginative and provocative use of words.

I first saw this book at the Eudora Welty House, and I found a copy at the library. It was an interesting little quote / coffee table book. It had nature water color paintings from a Mississippi artist and quotes form Eudora Welty's books. I felt like this book was a waste of my time. It was as if the editor took nature words and did a word search from Eudora Welty's books and put that sentence in a book. Some seemed a little out of place or context. Really glad I didn't purchase this book.

Girl's Night Out!

Tonight for a Girl's Night, Can and I went to Easly Amused! It's a painting class where they make it very simple and no matter what you will be able to paint their pictures. I was a little nervous (because I can't draw stick figures very well) but excited at the same time. We had so much fun, I meant to get more pictures, but my hands were covered in pant. But I got the finished product.
