Fruita, Colorado to Zion National Park, Utah to Kanab, Utah

We left Moose and Ashley's in Colorado and headed to Zion National Park in Utah.

Zion National Park was beautiful, but very crowded. There was not much parking in the park, so you had to find a parking spot in town and they bus you into the park. We lucked up and were able to get a spot in the parking lot right before you enter the park. This park actually had a walk up entrance.

Zion was a very big park, but they had a bus route along one long drag of the park. We decided to ride all the way to the end and then work our way back down.

A little information before you begin.

This park was a rock climbers paradise!

The Riverside Walk was by far the most popular stop in the park. There were so many people there and most were foreign. I would say John and I were the minority of English speaking people there. It was so much fun hearing all the different languages around us.

Many people were getting in the water, however John and I opted out because it was so sandy on the banks.

These little guys were everywhere and not scared of people.

Waterfall. You could go all the way to the top!

Storm clouds rolling in as we were making our way back to the car.

The drive through the park was so much fun. The long winding road out of Zion allowed for an incredible view at each turn.

Rainbow!

Our original plan was to make it as close as we could to South Rim of the Grand Canyon. We stopped for gas in Kanab, Utah to get gas and snacks. There were two little old ladies running the gas station. We asked their opinion the best place to stop for the night since we weren't going to make it. They told us we didn't wanna do that drive at all. Quote, "Oh honey, y'all don't wanna do that. My daddy always said it's just a big hole in the ground, it doesn't matter what side you're on." They suggested we just stay in town and go to the North Rim in the morning. It was only a 45 min drive. So that's what we did.

Apparently this was a very popular city to stop in on the way to the Grand Canyon. We called a half dozen places to see if there were room available, and everyone was booked except this little Motel. It turned out to be quite charming!

We had the John Wayne room. Unbeknownst to us, there have been quite a few westerns filmed in the area. All of the rooms were named after old movies stars.

Western bedding and pictures of John Wayne everywhere!

It was late by the time we checked in to the motel so we asked the man at the front desk for options. He suggested the Peekaboo Canyon Wood Fired Kitchen. It turned out to be a vegan pizza restaurant and it was delicious! Pictured here was the Cauliflower & Smoked Gouda Lakes, it was so good! It was served with homemade applesauce and sour cream.

We also shared the Peekaboo Pear Pizza. Pear, sage, and mozzarella with arugula, tossed in champagne vinaigrette and gorgonzola cheese.
