Movie Night!
Tonight I watched Taxi Driver starring Robert De Niro, Jodie Foster, and Cybill Shepherd.
This movie is about a mentally unstable Vietnam war veteran works as a nighttime taxi driver
in New York City where the perceived decadence and sleaze feeds his
urge to violently lash out, attempting to save a teenage prostitute in
the process. I thought this was a very good movie. This was definitely a guy movie, like most of the De Niro movies I've seen lately. It had a very violent and very unexpected ending. If you are a De Niro fan, this is a must watch movie. Below is a famous quote from the movie. This is quote I've heard before, but didn't know where is came from until tonight. Enjoy!

Octoberfest is back!
I like just about all of Samuel Adams seasonal beers, but Octoberfest is my favorite. It reminds me of football and the weather changing into fall. One of the items on my 30 before 30 list is to find a signature drink, if only this beer were served all year, this could be it! For now, the search continues!

Calligraphy Class!
Tonight I started a calligraphy class at Millsaps! It's part of the Community Enrichment Classes they offer every semester. It's a five week class, meeting once a week. This is a picture from day one. It's like Kindergarten all over again. At the beginning of each line is the letter and then you repeat it across the page. It's hard and tedious, but it was so much fun!

Afternoon Movie!
This afternoon John and I watched Raging Bull starring Robert De Niro. This movie is about a boxers career and his home life. Both of which are violent. He finally achieves his goal of being a prizefighting boxer, but not without lots of sacrifices along the way.
This was definitely a guy movie. It was very violent and had a very sad ending. But overall I thought this movie was pretty good. If you like boxing/wrestling movie, this is one at add to your must see list.

1st Hunting Trip!
This weekend I went on a spontaneous trip to Houston to see John. This morning we went on my first hunting trip! We went dove hunting. We had lots of fun. We didn't get any little birdies but we actually saw some with was better then John's trip last weekend. So, I was sort of his good luck charm. :D

Book Review!
Tonight I finally finisehd Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. I have seen several versions of the movie but had never read the book until now. It's on the BBC list of books and free on Kindle now, so I decided to finally read it.
Quick Summary: Little Women is the story of The Marches, a
family used to hard toil and suffering. Although Father March is away
with the Union armies, the sisters Meg, Jo, Amy and Beth keep in high
spirits with their mother, affectionately named Marmee. Their friendly
gift of a Christmas holiday breakfast to a neighboring family is an act
of generosity rewarded with wealthy Mr. Laurence's gift of a surprise
Christmas feast. However, despite their efforts to be good, the girls
show faults: the pretty Meg becomes discontented with the children she
teaches; boyish Jo loses her temper regularly; while the golden-haired
schoolgirl Amy is inclined towards affectation. However, Beth, who keeps
the house is always kind and gentle. After certain happy times winning
over the Laurences, dark times arrive as Marmee finds out about her
husband's illness. Worse is to come as Beth contracts scarlet fever in
her Samaritan efforts for a sick neighbor and becomes more or less an
invalid. The novel tells of their progress into young womanhood with the
additional strains of romance, Beth's terminal illness, the pressures
of marriage and the outside world. This is the story of their growing
maturity and wisdom and the search for the contentedness of family life.
It was written in 1867 and is a fictionalized biography of Alcott and
her sisters. It has become a much loved classic tale and, while some of
its issues seem outdated, many of the trials of the sisters are all too
relevant today as evidenced by its continued following.
I thought this book was very very long, but completely wonderful!! It's such a sweet story about sister's growing up and their love for each other. If you haven't read it before, it is a must read classic!

Movie Night!
Tonight I watched The Deer Hunter, starring Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken, and Meryl Streep. This movie is about three friends who grew up together in a small PA town. They all enlist in the army and go to fight in Vietnam. They all survive the war, but not without the physical and mental wounds.
This movie was very graphic war movie. There were several times when I had to turn away and not watch, because I knew there was going to be a bad scene. But, over all it was not a bad movie. If you like war movies this is one to watch.

Mississippi Children's Museum!
Today we took John's cousin to the Mississippi Children's Museum. Because of the rain, and it being a holiday it was super crowded, but Declan had a great time, and that's all that matters. :D
