Corporate Interview - Ep: 83

Blue Man Group!

Tonight Teresa and I along with some ladies for work went to see the Blue Man Group at Thalia Mara Hall!
I had seen them in New York with John and was excited to see the show in a bigger venue. We were in the cheap seats on the next to the last row in the balcony. But it was still a great time and we had such a blast.

They discourage taking photos and video during the performance, however they offer a meet and greet at the end! Here are a few pictures from the night.

Me with a Blue Man

We asked a guy to take a picture of our group, this was the outcome...

This one was much better. It actually included everyone!

Warm Bodies

Summary: R is a young man with an existential crisis--he is a zombie. He shuffles through an America destroyed by war, social collapse, and the mindless hunger of his undead comrades, but he craves something more than blood and brains. He can speak just a few grunted syllables, but his inner life is deep, full of wonder and longing. He has no memories, no identity  and no pulse, but he has dreams. After experiencing a teenage boy's memories while consuming his brain, R makes an unexpected choice that begins a tense, awkward, and strangely sweet relationship with the victim's human girlfriend. Julie is a blast of color in the otherwise dreary and gray landscape that surrounds R. His decision to protect her will transform not only R, but his fellow Dead, and perhaps their whole lifeless world.

I really enjoyed this book. It was an easy and simple read. It had a different take on your regular zombie story. I mainly read about this book because it was being made into a movie (big surprise that I read a book being made into a movie!) Anyway, here's the movie trailer.

Hyper-Mediation in New Media - Ep: 80

Snow!!!

This was the view from my bedroom window!

Snow flakes coming down, leaving for work.

View from the office! Snow still coming down. Of course, it was all gone by the afternoon, but it was fun to look at while it lasted.

Book Review

Summary: On the day of their fifth wedding anniversary, Nick's wife Amy disappears. There are signs of struggle in the house and Nick quickly becomes the prime suspect. It doesn't help that Nick hasn't been completely honest with the police and, as Amy's case drags out for weeks, more and more vilifying evidence appears against him. Nick, however, maintains his innocence. As revelation after revelation unfolds, it becomes clear that the truth does not exist in the middle of Nick and Amy's points of view; in fact, the truth is far more dark, more twisted, and more creepy than you can imagine.

I loved the way this book was written, it was unlike any I've read before. The style was very different. The book switched between the voice of Nick the husband and Amy the wife. The wife's voice from the time they met until her disappearance and the husbands for the time his wife disappears forward. It had the most surprising ending!!

Movie Review!

Summary: As an asteroid nears Earth, a man finds himself alone after his wife leaves in a panic. He decides to take a road trip to reunite with his high school sweetheart. Accompanying him is a neighbor who inadvertently puts a wrench in his plan.

I got this Netflix rental in the mail this week. I really enjoyed this movie, it was different from any doomsday movie I have ever seen. Spoiler: the world actually ends. The astronauts can't blow up the asteroid. And it's heading for earth. It was a little funny, a little heartbreaking, but had a really nice ending.

Movie Review Lincoln

Summary: Mick Haller is a defense lawyer who works out of his Lincoln. When a wealthy Realtor is accused of raping a prostitute, Haller is asked to defend him. The man claims that the woman is trying to get some money out of him. But when Haller looks at the evidence against him, he learns that this case might be linked to an old case of his.

This was another movie that Teresa and I had both not seen. It was so much fun just doing nothing but sitting around and watching movies. It had great characters and was a great story that kept you guessing what was going to happen next!

Movie Review!

Summary: It is 1942, America has entered World War II, and sickly but determined Steve Rogers is frustrated at being rejected yet again for military service. Everything changes when Dr. Erskine recruits him for the secret Project Rebirth. Proving his extraordinary courage, wits and conscience, Rogers undergoes the experiment and his weak body is suddenly enhanced into the maximum human potential. When Dr. Erskine is then immediately assassinated by an agent of Nazi Germany's secret HYDRA research department (headed by Johann Schmidt, a.k.a. the Red Skull), Rogers is left as a unique man who is initially misused as a propaganda mascot; however, when his comrades need him, Rogers goes on a successful adventure that truly makes him Captain America, and his war against Schmidt begins.

I have seen The Avengers, and all the movies that lead up to that movie except Captain America. It was on-demand on Netflix, so Teresa and I decided to watch it. I though it was of the best Marvel movies. I couldn't believe it took me so long to watch it. There are making a second movie to come out in 2014. Should be good!

Movie Review Odd Green

Summary: After receiving bad news from a fertility doctor, Cindy and Jim Green try to bury their dreams of having a child by writing out all the great traits their child would have and putting them in a box in the garden. During a freak storm in the middle of the night, they awake to find a boy named Timothy, with leaves growing from his ankles, standing in their kitchen calling them mom and dad. Cindy and Jim are thrown into the midst of parenthood and over the coming months, Timothy will teach them more than they could have imagined about being parents and raising a child, no matter how he comes into their lives.

Tonight Teresa and I watched The Odd Life of Timothy Green, starring Jennifer Garner and Joel Ederton. It's a Netflix movie I had been neglecting for a couple weeks. I thought this movie was very cute story. Just a good little feel good movie. It was a little bit of a tearjerker, but it was a happy cry.

Happy New Year!

We had poppers and sparklers to bring in the New Year!

New Years Resolutions:
1) Read a book a week (I've tried this several times, usually ending in failure, this year I'm going to do it!)
2) Buy a book a month for the local book store. (Lately I've been better about getting books from the library, but sometime this library doesn't have what I'm looking for. But it's good to support local businesses!)

Only 2 this year... and they kind of go together. Hopefully I can do it!
