Thanksgiving in New York!

Wednesday:

Candice dropped me off at the airport early in the morning and I got to NYC around lunch time, where John and Terry were waiting for me.  The first thing we did, was went back to Terry's house in Brooklyn to get settled in and figure out what we were going to do with the rest of the day.

Me, John, and Dan decided we were going to see the Blue Man Group and then meet up with Terry and John's dad for dinner.

This was my first time to see the Blue Man Group and it was so awesome!!! And after the show we got to meet the guys from the show! They stayed in character the whole time, so it was just a one sided conversation but it was still lots of fun... this is the only picture that turned out good.

After we got back to Brooklyn, we all went out to eat at Bamonte's Restaurant. This was a classic Italian restaurant in Brooklyn. This restaurant was featured in several episodes for The Soprano's. We had some very great food there, mussels marinara, baked clams organata, and John and I shared stuffed Flounder. It was all so good.

When we got back to Terry's it was time for bed! We needed to get some sleep so we could wake up early to get to the parade!!

Thursday:

Happy Thanksgiving!!

We had two tickets to sit on the bleachers at the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. The tickets said they closed the stopped letting ticket holders in at 8:30 a.m., so we decided that getting there at 7:30 a.m. would give us plenty of time... not so much. The line was almost 3 blocks long and after standing in line until about 8:20 a.m. we decided to give up on the tickets and find a spot on the street.

One thing I can say about the parade.... it was crowed. If this is something we ever have the opportunity to do, we will need to get there at least 2 or 3 hours earlier. But I did get some good shots of some of the balloons.

After the parade we made it back to Terry's in time to get ready for Thanksgiving dinner at her brother's house. We stopped at a little coffee shop first, where John could look at his work e-mails real quick.  I got a cappuccino and I had to wait a little while for it, but it was worth the wait. It was so good! And it had a little heart in the milk!

The original plan was to be at dinner at 4:00 p.m. but at the last minute got moved up to 2:00 p.m. So we pretty much had to start getting ready and get on the road.  Terry's brother only lives about 20 miles away from her house, but it took about an hour and a half to get there using the "Expressway".

Once we got there everything was great! We started out with drink and snacks... cheese, meat, and olives.  The meal started off with pumpkin tortellini in chicken broth.  It was sooo good. I'm not the biggest fan or pumpkin but this was delicious. I managed to get a picture:

After we were done with the tortellini, it was time for the rest of dinner. Most everything we had to eat were the normal Thanksgiving Day foods: turkey, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, lots of wine, and etc. Something different I had never tried before was Turducken. It's a turkey, stuffed with a duck, stuffed with a chicken. It was different; the best part was the gravy it made. It was unlike anything I had ever had before. And dessert was a whole meal in itself! I ate way to much, but it was a great day!!

Friday:

John, Dan and I went into the city to do a little shopping and so John and I could get tickets to a Broadway Show! I went with Dan in search for the perfect shoes, while John waited in line to get tickets to Rock of Ages staring Constantine Maroulis.

The show didn't start until 8:00 p.m., so it gave us a little time to walk around Time Square.

In Time Square they also had some nice bathrooms. It was pretty entertaining... they had people outside singing and someone at the bathrooms with a mic that talked to you while you were waiting in line.  It was really funny when, I was already in a bathroom, and I could hear the guy ask John what he was going to do when he got in there! Haha! If you wanted to know, he said #1!!!

The girl singing outside.

All of us sitting on a giant toliet!

While we were walking around we ended up buying comedy club tickets to The Comic Strip and getting a free picture of beer from Big Daddy's Bar.

After we all went to Big Daddy's, John and I went to dinner and then to Rock of Ages. We had a great dinner at a French restaurant that John heard was close to the theater. We both got a salad and salmon, with a glass of wine each for just $20 a person!!! We got done with dinner just in time to get to the show.

This show was so awesome! It was a rock n roll love story put to the music of the 80's. When we walked in the door, they gave everyone a flashlight in the shape of a lighter to turn on during the slow ballads. It was defiantly a show I wouldn't mind going to again.

Saturday:

At 12:30 a.m. we went to The Comic Strip comedy club.

The comedy club was lots of fun! I couldn't believe it didn't start until 12:30 in the morning. There was a two drink minimum and it was buy one get one free night (or morning). But after the first drink it was okay. The first comic to get up was terrible, but everyone else that got up there was really great. We didn't leave the club until 3:00 a.m. I'm not sure when the last time was I have stayed up that late, but it was worth it.

We slept in a little and then got up and helped Terry around the house. I helped paint the banister of the stairs and helped Dan paint a door. It was my first experience ever painting and it wasn't that bad with someone helping you.

At 5:45 p.m. we had tickets to go see A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor. It was fun, a little different though. It was a live taping for the radio shop, so most of the time he was not performing for the audience; he was performing for the radio. Like if the crowd was clapping to long, you missed something he was saying because he just kept on with the show. It was fun to see Garrison Keillor though.

For dinner we decided to have dinner in. We got pizza from a local restaurant. It was lots of fun. We got to bed early because John and Dan both had to be at the airport at 5:00 a.m. on Sunday. It was a great way to end a great holiday weekend!!!!

Sunday:

I got up around 4:00 a.m. to tell John goodbye :( Then I went back to sleep for a little while. Terry, John's dad, and I didn't need to be at the airport until later in the morning. I got up around 7:30 a.m. to get ready and help clean up the house before it was time to go. I had such a great time in New York and was thankful I didn't get sick!

Candice picked me up at the airport around 1:00 p.m. and she let me take her out to eat as a thank you for dropping me off and picking me up. It was a great way to end a great weekend!!!
