The French Connection, starring Gene Hackman, is about two cops in New York City who are trying to intercept a heroin shipment from some French men who are coming to the US from.... France.
This movie started out very very slow. So slow, that the first time I tried to watch it I turned it off. About a week later I gave it another chance. This movie ended up being pretty good, once you got past the beginning part. One of things this movie is 'best know for' is the car/train chase scene. I managed to find it on youtube.com.
In reading about this chase scene, apparently it was real! On IMBD, it says that the New York City police where not notified that they were going to be filming. Some of the crashing was planned, but when one of the cars crashed into Gene Hackman, the man was on his way to work! He was compensated so his car could be fixed.
