Book Review

This book was by Brian Selznick, the same author as The Invention of Hugo Cabret. I actually enjoyed Wonderstruck better. It was an easy read and I loved how it told a story with words and pictures and how they both intertwined at the end. It was such a magical book!

Silver Linings Playbook

Summary: After a stint in a mental institution, former teacher Pat Solitano moves back in with his parents and tries to reconcile with his ex-wife. Things get more challenging when Pat meets Tiffany, a mysterious girl with problems of her own.

I had really wanted to see this movie and talked John into taking me. It was a comedy but ended up being more of a chick flick than I expected. But I thought it was a great movie! I really enjoyed it. This movie is based on a book, so this is one of those rare times when I saw the movie before reading the book. Hopeful I'll get to read it soon. This is 40 - Movie Review

I've seen several movies, but have failed to talk about them. So here I go!

Summary: An original comedy that expands upon the story of Pete and Debbie from the blockbuster hit Knocked Up as we see first-hand how they are dealing with their current state of life. After years of marriage, Pete lives in a house of all females: wife Debbie and their two daughters, eight-year-old Charlotte and 13-year-old Sadie. As he struggles to keep his record label afloat, he and Debbie must figure out how to forgive, forget and enjoy the rest of their lives...before they kill each other.

I saw This is 40 with John and Joe. I thought it was going to be really funny. Turns out this was one of those movies where most of the funny parts were in the movie trailer. And parts were uncomfortable family drama situations. I was an okay movie, but would have been better as a rental with girlfriends and a few adult beverages.

So here is another book I read that is being made into a movie. I thought this book was really good, except I'm not quite sure how I feel about the ending. The whole book built up to the end, then it kind of left you where you have to pick up the next book to get any real answers. (there are 4 books total) But it was still a fun read. The movie has lots of award winning actors in it so it should be good. Here's the trailer.

The Host Official Trailer (2013)

Today I finally finished The Host by Stephanie Meyer. It was a long book that took a little while to get into it.,but turned out to be a good book. I picked it up because I wanted to see what Stephanie Meyer's adult book was like and because it's been made into a movie. 

Quick Summary: It about aliens. Imagine invasion of the body snatchers but one girl who's body gets invaded has such love for a guy that the alien couldn't fully take over her body. And they (the girl and the alien as one) go looking for him. Should be interesting to see how this is on the big screen since most of the book was internal  thoughts and conversations. Anyway, here's the trailer...

Safe Haven Book Review!

Summary: When a mysterious young woman named Katie appears in the small North Carolina town of Southport, her sudden arrival raises questions about her past. This book was unlike any Nicholas Sparks book I've ever read. It had a love story, of course, but the main topic of the book was much more serious. For a Nicholas Sparks book I was surprised and happy with the ending. I mainly picked up this book because it's being made into a movie! It comes out Valentine's Day 2013! Here is the trailer...

Summary: Life of Pi is a fantasy adventure novel by Yann Martel published in 2001. The protagonist, Piscine Molitor "Pi" Patel, an Indian boy from Pondicherry, explores issues of spirituality and practicality from an early age. I saw the preview for this movie and it looked interesting so I decided to pick up the book first. I almost put the book down, it took almost 100 pages to get into this book. But it ended up being amazing!! It was a great story and had the most unexpected ending. I would recommended this book to just about anyone.

Book Re-read!

Teresa and I are doing a re-read of all the Harry Potter books, then we are going to have a movie marathon! Should be fun!

New Soup Recipe!

Tonight I made Chicken Taco Soup! I kind of created a recipe from several that I had looked at and some ingredients that I already had. Here's the recipe:

* Rotisserie Chicken (tip: get all the chicken off when it's still hot)

* 2 cans corn

* 2 cans low sodium black beans

* 32 oz. Low Sodium Chicken Broth

* Tomato Paste (I found the Ro-Tel Tomato Paste for extra spice)

* 8oz. Reduced fat Cream Cheese   

* 1 cup Reduced fat Sour Cream

* Packet of Taco seasoning

* Packet Ranch Dressig

* Cheese (for topping)

* Fritos (for topping)

I put all of in the Crock-Pot on low for about 7 hours, adding the creamy ingredients last. This made lots of soup, enough for me to make 8 lunch size meals out of it!!

New Orleans Weekend!

This weekend John, Joe, and Dan had relatives visiting them from Italy! They decided to take them to New Orleans for the weekend. We had lots of fun and even got to go to LSU for the LSU vs MSU game. I took a few pictures, but not too many.

Started the weekend with a Kir Royal. 

I got to New Orleans after work and didn't have a key to the hotel room yet. So I ended up getting a free voucher to the bar while I waited on the group to get back.

John's relatives wanted to hear the sounds for New Orleans, this Jazz bar came highly recommended. I really enjoyed this place. There was great live music, but at a level where you could still hear people talking beside you.

The day of the game we went to Cafe du Monde for breakfast. It was so good. We also went to Cabela's (kind of like Bass Pro Shops, but just has hunting stuff). They don't really have specialty stores like that in Italy, so they really enjoyed that store.

Kick-off! Even though we lost the game, it was still a good game!

I forgot to take a picture of it, but I also got to try Quail this weekend! I really liked it. Some of the men folk went hunting and shot Quail, and they grilled it up for dinner when we got back from NO. We also had some tasty pasta, John's relatives actually own a restaurant in Italy and they made dinner for us!!!

I needed to go into work today, on a Sunday, and decided to see a movie after I was done. I was really looking forward to this movie, I had read the book several years ago. Then I heard that it was going to be in select theaters only, so I was quite surprised when I saw it was playing at the Malco! (Mississippi usually doesn't get movies that are listed in select theaters only) It was a really cute and funny movie, there were several serious parts too, but overall a good book to movie adaptation!!

New Recipe!

Here is another Pinterest idea! Candice was here for a long weekend. We usually go out to eat while she is here, but we decided to stay in for a few meals. Can and I were looking for new recipes to try and came across this one!

Chicken Roll Ups

1 pkg cream cheese

1 pkg crescent rools

1.5 C grated chedder cheese

1 C grated Montery Jack cheese

1/4 t salt

1/4 t pepper

bread crumbs

1/4 sick melted butter

Combine chicken, cheeses, salt and pepper. Spoon onto crescents. Roll them up making sure they are sealed around the chicken mixture. Brush tops with butter and sprinkle with bread crumbs. Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes. To reheat, just place in a 325 degree oven for 15 minutes.

We decided against the bread crumbs. (it felt a little weird putting bread on bread) So we decided to add garlic powder instead. Can had it all ready when me and Lou got home from work! It turned out delicious!

Crock-Pot Soup!

Between the cold weather and me spending entirely too much time looking at Pinterest. I decided to make some soup. Warning: It very delicious and unhealthy. I also made a lot! I was able to feed me, Teresa, and Lou dinner. Plus enough leftovers to have lunch for the whole week!

Bacon Cheeseburger Soup!

Ingredients:

1 lb of ground beef

1 container of Philadelphia Cooking Creme ( I used regular creme cheese)

6 slices of bacon

1 bag Ore Ida Hash Browns

1 8 oz. Velveeta cheese

1 32 oz. chicken broth stock

Small onion diced

32 oz. chicken broth stock

Cut and cubed cream cheese and Velveeta

Add in hash browns

Add browned hamburger and cook & crumbled bacon

Ready for cooking!

The directions said to cook it for 4-5 hours on high.

I had a problem with it sticking. So I would recommend cooking it on low for longer and

stirring it very often.

Soup is ready to eat!

I added a little cheese and some French's fired onion on top!
