The goal for today was to get into a beer tent. John and I woke up early early and were outside the tent at 7:30 a.m.! There was a little bit of drama getting into the tent. We got in a line that we discovered really wasn't a line, and despise being yelled at by a slightly scary German security guard, we stayed put. They let us in at around 9:00 a.m. and we got our first beer of the day. I glad we got there as early as we did, because we got a great table near the center of the tent where the band was set up.
Augustiner-Brau tent!
Coaster at the table.
Menu from the tent
Even though the menu was in German, I knew what I was going to eat. 1/2 a Hendl or roasted chicken. I had read that this is one of those things you have to get while at Oktoberfest.
There were about 8 of these roasters.
Hendl, beer, and potato salad.
This was probably the best roasted chicken I have ever had. It had a crispy crust and was very juicy meat. And I ate the whole thing! I wasn't a fan of the potato salad though. It had a very strong vinegar taste.
View from the balcony.
Another view of the balcony. This one shows the stage in the center. By the end of the afternoon, everyone was standing on the bench seats and dancing!
This is where all the beer get poured. Those giant barrels.
Types of beer they offered in the tent.
An attempt at a self portrait of me and John.
We had such a great time! We did a lot of eating, a bit of drinking, and got to meet lots of interesting people. (Even our friends from last night showed up!). But by 5:00 p.m. we were done!
