Cimarron, New Mexico to (Cortez) Mesa Verde, Colorado

We left Richard and Anna's house after breakfast and headed to Mesa Verde, Colorado. Richard had told us that there were some other ruins you could visit along the way, called Chaco Culture National Park. He told us it would be worth the stop. Our schedule was pretty flexible, so we decided to go and see what it was all about.

You can see all the details that went into building their walls.

John sitting under this giant rock. The mesa was twice as high as this!

Little bunny running through the ruins.

Even though these ruins were quite weathered, it was amazing to see them. Some of them date back to AD 950. It's just amazing to think about all the history of the United States before we were the United States.

We did not make it to the top of the mesa, but here are some random people to show how far up they were.

Leaving New Mexico

Arizona State Line

Four Corners Monument. This is the quadripoint where Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah all meet. Ever dream of being in two places at once? How about four! This was a neat experience, but fair warning, it was a bit of a tourist trap. We got there right before they were closing, but if you look behind me and John you can see booths set up. The booths that were open when we were there were mostly handmade jewelry. I can only imagine what it's like when all of them are full.

We made it to Cortez, Colorado that night. John was able to use some points to stay at the Best Western on the Main Street. We didn't get there until late so our options were limited on were we could grab some dinner. So we decided on Main Street Brewery. It was a cute little restaurant with some local craft brews to enjoy. What a great finish to our day.
