Mansfield, Texas to Cimarron, New Mexico

Today starts our epic road trip. Because we were going to be logging some serious miles, we decided to rent a car. Unlimited miles and no state restrictions. We were able to get a fancy upgrade, so we ended up with a Audi Q5.

Starting mileage.

Our America the Beautiful Pass. This pass will get you into all the National Parks for a whole year. It was only $80. We picked ours up at REI, but you can buy them at all the parks.

First state sign! There are going to be quite a few on our trip.

Our first stop was Cimarron, New Mexico. Our buddy Richard (whom John and I have known since elementary school) lives there. We had some elk meat to deliver to him, so it made sense that he would be our first road trip stop. We met him and his girlfriend Anna for dinner at Cold Beer (also known as Colfax Tavern). They have good pizza, bar food, and our course, a great selection of cold beer. We had a great time sitting on the patio and watching the locals playing Jeopardy.  It was a great evening with great friends.
